"Compatibility Mode" simply means that the file is in an older format, DOC rather than DOCX. In Compatibilty Mode, Word disables features that are not supported by the old file format. The most obvious example is in the Home tab / Font group, the"blue A" Text Effects button is greyed out. Rather than doing a SAVE AS, use the convert function.

When you click on"Compatibility", you get a menu containing the names of older Windows operating systems. From there, you can choose the operating system you want in the compatibility mode.

How can I get Word to open documents out of Compatibility Mode? I'm using Windows 11. Thanks. BTW, I've updated to the latest version of Word 365.
